Gérald Thomassin : A former hope of French cinema arrested for murder



Winner of the César for Most Promising Actor in 1991 for "The Criminal Small" actor Gerald Thomassin was arrested by police late last week. He is suspected of killing a mother five years ago.

December 19, 2008, Catherine Burgod was brutally murdered 28 stabbing after deflected Montreal-la-Cluse in Ain. The postmistress of 41 years five months pregnant, left behind two children. More than five years after this terrible tragedy, police on Friday arrested a suspect, betrayed by his found on the crime scene DNA. A well-known moviegoers as suspect is Gérald Thomassin, deposed French film actor who in 1991 received the Cesar for Most Promising Actor for his role in The Criminal Small, of Jacques Doillon's father, Lou Doillon. 

first reported by the newspaper Le Progres, Gérald Thomassin's arrest was confirmed on Tuesday evening to AFP by counsel for the plaintiffs. The man, now aged 38, was arrested Friday in Rochefort, Charente-Maritime, and indicted for armed robbery and murder of Catherine Burgod. Before his arrest, the actor was arrested and taken into custody in June for "armed robbery and murder of a person charged with a public service mission," according to AFP. Against all odds, the suspect was released and placed under judicial supervision. 


Gérald Thomassin yet had a promising career ahead of him. After receiving the César for Best Newcomer at the age of 16, the young actor turns in several films directed by Jacques Doillon, including Club to Death in 1996, alongside Beatrice Dalle. But soon, Gérald Thomassin falls into drugs and alcohol, the beginning of a long downward spiral that opens today on purpose that he knows
